I’m Joe Benson, and Sponge Muse is my approach to digital design. I believe in interfaces that tell a story, imagery that evokes emotion, and systems that just work. I put meaning before trend and usability before aesthetics.

Every project I take on starts by listening. From there, I rely on a continuous loop of research, prototyping, and validation to keep digital experiences sharp and focused. I don’t build complexity or decoration; I build clarity and depth.

Design Philosophy

CAPTURE

For me, Sponge Muse is mostly about taking the time to listen before jumping into the work. I try to start every project by just absorbing what is already there, your story, the environment, and what your users are actually trying to do. It is an approach based on being present and paying attention, so we can figure out what matters before figuring out what comes next.

My toolkit is pretty flexible, but I try to keep the execution fairly intentional. Discovery and research can get messy, and a big part of my job is just filtering through that noise so you do not have to deal with it. Hopefully, that means you end up with a design that actually delivers results, and your users get something that feels like it was made with them in mind.

For me, the actual design work starts once we have a general idea of the direction. I try to approach every project with real intent because design shapes how people interact with the world. It can influence behavior, guide decisions, and either fix or cause friction in everyday experiences. When it is done well, it hopefully increases productivity and frees up some mental bandwidth so your users can just focus on what matters most to them.

DESIGN

DESIGN

Once the landscape is clear, Sponge Muse shapes it with rhythm and story. This is where systems, visuals, and flows come to life—through frameworks that balance research with intuition, aesthetics with functionality, and user needs with brand voice.

Joe brings a process-driven lens to every medium—whether crafting UX flows, visual identities, or editorial photography. Design here means deliberate creation: art that serves, systems that resonate, and visuals that feel both lived-in and cinematic.

RELEASE

Until you actually put the design out into the world, it is basically just an expensive theory. You can do all the research you want and spend months polishing every single pixel, but you do not actually learn anything real until a live user interacts with it. That is when you find out what is actually working and what you completely misjudged.

It is also incredibly easy for projects to lose steam right at the finish line. People get perfectionist paralysis, or they get distracted by the next big idea, and the current project just sits in a folder gathering dust. That kills momentum.

Releasing something does not mean it has to be completely flawless or finished forever. It just means you are willing to let it start breathing in the real world so you can figure out how to make it better based on actual reality, not just guesses.
